Hardly any shoe was sold over the counter as often during its launch as the adidas Iniki. The reasons for this are pretty clear. After the NMD, the I-5923 was the second style that came with Boost technology, but was not made for the sports field but for everyday use. In addition to the high level of comfort, the Iniki also offers a simple, stylish look. It is simply an all-rounder and totally uncomplicated to style. The no-brainer that always makes you look good. Another advantage is definitely that it is possible to buy an Iniki almost at any time.
While the first drops stayed true to the old school vibe, quite a few more colorways came out later. Probably the most popular colorway in the GR range was the “Spirit of the 70’s”. Here, the sneaker with retro flair was dipped in a fitting, nostalgic color combo. What a strong inline release!
In addition to its own roll-out, adidas also released strong collaborations with various brands, all of which differed from each other. Neighborhood stayed true to its own DNA for the time being and launched an almost completely black version, which was later followed by one in olive. Bodega and END. Clothing, on the other hand, went wild. The I-5923 got an upper made of denim patches, which looked better than Justin and Britney on the red carpet in 2001. Not quite a collabo, but two exclusive colorways of the Iniki were available at Sneakersnstuff. The pack came with one style in beige and one in a dark blue colorway. We have to admit at this point that the promotional clip provided more stand up in this case. SNS had Kitten run over the shoes which made it impossible not to break out in an “aww” while doing so. The two colorways that were unique to SNS ran under the radar, but highlighted the simplicity that is the I-5923. Those who had already bought the other collaborations could once again buy a completely clean Iniki.
By now, you’re probably asking yourself, “Why haven’t I bought an Iniki yet?” To be honest, we don’t know either.
