The history of Asics

Asics was founded in Japan in 1949 and became particularly well known for running shoes, although the first shoe they developed was a basketball sneaker. In the beginning, the brand was called Onitsuka Tiger, named after its founder Kihachiro Onitsuka. The current name only came in 1977, with the merger with another sports company. Asics is an acronym for the Latin phrase "anima sana in corpore sano" - a healthy soul in a healthy body.

Which Asics models are available to buy?

If you are considering buying a pair of Asics, you can choose between different shapes and styles depending on the intended use. The retro models from the Gel-Lyte line are particularly popular in the lifestyle sector. The Gel refers to the company's own cushioning technology, which Asics launched back then to compete with Nike's "Air" system and inspire runners from all over the world. Today, styles such as the Asics Gel-Lyte III or Gel-Lyte V are popular silhouettes for everyday wear that continue to be purchased due to their timeless running design and comfort.

With the return of the dad shoe trend, Asics immediately delivered a shape from its own archives that played on the theme skillfully. The Gel-Kayano 5 returned in 2018 and is still well received today.

Asics and the collabos

Collaborations with stores are as much a part of the brand's DNA as running. Atmos, Kith or Ronnie Fieg and Foot Patrol are just a few of the names that need to be dropped here. Thanks to these releases, Asics Tiger has managed to stay on the radar of even the most selective target groups. Recently, the Japanese brand has expanded its partners to include designers such as Kiko Kostadinov, Vivienne Westwood and fashion brand GmbH. Kiko, in particular, has provided some shining moments. Some of the sneakers that emerged from the creative exchange with the Bulgarian were gone before anyone had them on their radar. Collectors and, above all, fashion lovers bought the Asics Gel-Delva 2 and rocked them in their own way.

We are excited to see what Asics will come up with in the future. Until then, you can check out which Asics are currently available here.
