Of garden hoses, a new running sensation and visionary goals - the success story of On Running

With their sporty design, off-road character and tech material, On Running knows how to do it right, even just visually. But only those who have ever worn them will understand where the huge hype surrounding these kicks comes from! In this article, we reveal how the company has managed to establish a completely new running sensation and which shoes are particularly popular.

Grüezi

The idea for On sneakers was born in the Swiss Alps: during a hike, three friends Olivier Bernhard, David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti had the shared vision of revolutionizing the running sensation. Equipped with pieces of a garden hose, Olivier Bernhard set about building a prototype during his time as an athlete in order to reduce the risk of injury when running. This first model was ambitiously developed further by the three founders - always with the vision of bringing the innovative idea to the world through state-of-the-art technologies.

Today, On shoes are known for being like walking on clouds and at the same time being extremely powerful. This combination, together with innovative technologies, has made On Running the market leader in the running shoe sector in Switzerland within just a few years and has also ensured international growth. They are now known by athletes all over the world and have conquered the lifestyle sector as well as professional sport in the blink of an eye.

Although around half of the employees work in Switzerland, the majority of production now takes place in Asia in order to meet the high demand. The Swiss company's growth is no mean feat: On Running expanded into the USA in 2013, followed by Japan just two years later. By 2017, they were already exporting their sneakers to more than 50 countries, and the trend is rising. But that's not all: in 2021, On Running went public with record sales - the story goes On.

Whats On?

Originally designed for running, On sneakers are now available for special requirements such as trail running or hiking and, of course, as lifestyle shoes for everyday wear. Not only are they functional and high-tech, the On Cloud shoes are also ultra-comfortable. And word has spread like wildfire, because you can now see On shoes everywhere. We'll show you which variants are particularly hyped here.

On Cloudflow

This model comes with the maximum number of cushioning chambers, promising even better performance. At 198 grams, the shoe is extremely lightweight and feels similar to the Cloud X. This makes it ideal for explosive loads and high-speed runs. In terms of design, the Swiss have once again pulled out all the stops: The breathable upper adapts perfectly to the foot and key areas are additionally reinforced. With details such as the logo-look eyelets and the Swiss emblem, the Cloudflow is a stylish and strong model.

On Cloudflyer

This silhouette is also very lightweight and impresses with its strong performance. The high drop of 11 mm ensures effective cushioning, making the shoe ideal for heel strikers. The mesh upper not only ensures a sporty look, but also a comfortable fit and stability. The sides and heel area are reinforced to provide additional support. A special feature of the Cloudflyer is the well-padded tongue for a high level of comfort. In addition, the specially shaped insole and the external heel counter offer additional safety. This silhouette is also available in a waterproof and extra-wide version

On Cloudventure

The silhouette for demanding trail running and off-road adventures! CloudTec® and Helion™ Superfoam ensure a comfortable ride on any surface and cushion your run. The sole offers ultimate grip and the upper provides comfort while being extremely durable. With a weight of just 310 grams and a drop of 10mm, you have maximum support in the terrain. With the Cloudventure, there are no more excuses!

With a vision to success

On wasn't founded just to produce another running shoe. The three founders had the vision of supporting runners so that they could mobilize their full potential. It's not just about physical strength, but also mental strength.

This vision is also evident in the design of the shoes. The label is constantly on the lookout for new technologies and is not afraid to throw everything overboard and start from scratch - in order to deliver the best output.

This is exactly how CloudTec®, the USP of On Running, was created. The unique cushioning system offers you enormous comfort and stability to significantly reduce the impact. The result: a running sensation like walking on clouds. Over the years, other groundbreaking technologies have emerged from the laboratory in Zurich, such as Missiongrip™ and Speedboard®.

But the Zurich label's shoes also stand out visually: fresh colorways, high-quality materials and fine details on every silhouette ensure a sporty yet modern look.

No wonder the hype surrounding the shoe is so huge. On Running is always on the move, continuously optimizing their products and responding to the demand of their community. They have evolved from the OG model with an outdoor character to a sports and lifestyle brand that no longer just inspires runners. Sneakerheads and fashion fans also get their money's worth with silhouettes such as THE ROGER, the Cloudventure and the Cloudultra. This is how sneaker history is written - always on the run!
