Dad Shoe in a used look
New Balance is probably the epitome of the dad shoe trend and stands for professional sneakers with a real retro look. The label has had a lasting impact on the market and many of its models have made it into the ranks of sneaker icons. With the Silhouette New Balance 1906R, the label has upped the ante and complemented the vintage style with a used look. Like the New Balance 2002R, this model was an instant hit when it was released in 2022.
In this article we would like to introduce you to the special features of the model and hyped colorways.
The nineties and twenties were groundbreaking for the sneaker industry: the running boom of the eighties made sneakers a fashion accessory and paved the way for them to enter the lifestyle sector. Elegant heels and old-fashioned suit shoes were out – jeans skirts and baggy pants with sneakers were the must-haves! The focus was not only on ultra-modern silhouettes, but also on retro kicks. No wonder that already the 2002R caused a mega hype. The OG version of the 1906 served the New Balance designers as inspiration for the model. To build on the success, New Balance decided to create another Refined model: the 1906R.
The idea behind the OG model goes back to the youth of footwear designer Yue Wu, who himself hardly dared to wear his sneakers – for fear that they would eventually look worn out. With the used look, he wanted to encourage wearers to actually use the shoes. From this idea and the outdoor trend that followed later, other models developed and brands like Salomon entered the lifestyle sector.
There’s a lot of New Balance technology in each 1906R, which is, of course, cutting-edge. Like the 2002R, the original sole has been swapped out for the modern variant found in the 860v2. As such, the outer N-ergy sole and Abzorb heel cushioning absorb shock, while the Acteva Lite midsole provides comfort and stable support. The upper material provides comfortable support and ensures a regular fit, true to size.
In addition to performance, the design of the shoe is also appreciated by sneakerheads – not least because of the dad shoe hype. The success of this silhouette naturally called directly blatant collabos on the plan – the beginning made the hyped collabo with thisisneverthat. But of course there are already own hyped colorways. Which styles you should definitely know, we present to you here.
This is what many outdoor fans have been waiting for! These sneakers not only come in natural tones, but are also equipped with the robust Cordura fabric. The dirt- and water-repellent material protects your feet and thus ensures high comfort and durability. The Cordura version of the shoe comes in beige, olive and black. Unlike the New Balance 1906R Green, for example, these variants are plain – including the sole and thus emphasize the outdoor style.
This collabo is already a real icon! The variant comes with an upper made of light grey mesh with yellowed elements and a yellowed sole for that retro finish. Leather overlays in silver and dark grey accents give the kick the absolute dad shoe look. A 1906R that should definitely not be missing from your closet!
Probably the most popular variant by far is – as with the 2002R – the Protection Pack. Like its predecessor, there is a white, gray and black version. The fourth sneaker is a Reflection version in beige with a black reinforcement in the heel area. All in all, colorways that fit any style – whether on the street or in the office. The kicks come across authentic and without a big makeover, but with fine details. The layers in suede, which are so typical for the silhouette, also make up the used look here and the fine details provide the vintage finish – dad shoes par excellence!
These colorways were just a taste of what’s in store for the New Balance 1906R this year. And yet, the success is already crazy – even though the model has just launched. Get ready for great collabos and crazy colorways, because there’s a lot more to come. We are ready!
