The 'The Astor' in Perth is undoubtedly one of these unusual buildings and inspired the local sneaker store 'Highs and Lows' and ASICS Tiger to create the GEL-LYTE III 'SILVER SCREEN' as a tribute to cinema culture and Art Deco cinemas in particular.

When the doors of the 'Astor' opened on November 5, 1919, architect and owner Simon Bremner Alexander confidently described his work as the coolest building in the country. He was referring not only to the aesthetic but also the functional aspect of the design in the form of an extraordinary ventilation and cooling system, and to this day the 'Astor' has remained the premier venue for independent cinema, musicals, events and theatrical performances, symbolizing the cultural and artistic heart of Perth. The design of the GEL-LYTE III 'SILVER SCREEN' reflects the soft mint and contrasting red of the building and echoes details of the materials and décor used in the lobby. The print on the insole refers to the usual countdown to the start of the movie in old films. Via ASICS
