Nike on Air - Release Overview

The six winning models from the Nike on Air Contest will appear in the Nike online store at 09:00 tomorrow morning! Last year, Nike invited a number of creatives in New York City, London, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo to design their own interpretation of a Nike Air Max. From these "On Air" workshops, 18 finalists were selected who had implemented their ideas in a particularly creative way.

The public, i.e. all sneakerheads worldwide, then chose six winners, one per city. This includes Cash Ru from Shanghai, for example, who designed the insanely good Shanghai Kaleidoscope. Jasmin Lasode from London is responsible for the Air Max 97 Summer of Love, which we also like. Other models include the VaporMax Plus Work in Progress by Lou Matheron, the 97 Air Max by Gwang Shin from Seoul and the Air Max 98 by Gabrielle "Gaby" Serrano, which we have already featured here. The 98 in particular stands out from all the other models for me, because the shoe is simply packed with beautiful little details. Normally, the Nike Air Max 1 Tokyo Maze by Yuga Takuma would also be featured, but somehow this model never appeared in the SNEAKRS APP. But I don't think that's a big loss! The release of the five "Nike on Air" contest winners will only take place at Nike. We have searched in vain for other retailers, but assume that Nike will still be activating in the respective cities. It is striking that no German participant is represented and one of the largest sneaker markets in the world is therefore not included. But maybe that's the reason why Nike gave us the exclusive Nike Air 180 Berlin a few weeks ago.

If you were to ask me about our favorites from the drop, I would clearly tell you that the Air Max 97 Shanghai Kaleidoscope is in first place. This is followed by the Nike Air Max 98 La Mezcla by Gabrielle Serrano and the Air Max 97 Summer of Love by the lovely Ms Lasode, but overall I have to admit that the finalists of the Nike on Air campaign could definitely have done better. Because that also means that everyone will be throwing themselves at the 2-3 really good models in the collection, and it will be really hard to get the model you want. I'm definitely excited and, to be honest, I'm pleased that I won't have to go through the hassle tomorrow. Luckily, I already have my favorite pairs from the drop here and I wish you all good luck with the release tomorrow morning.
