This sole technology worked thanks to the bold urethane outsole of the Air element. For the first time, Nike Air literally hit the pavement with every step, with a playful flame graphic featuring a mischievous grin, Swoosh eyes and feet wearing a smaller version of this sneaker. On the heels is a thermostat with an integrated Nike Swoosh. Nike Sportswear found the inspiration for the shoe in the "fire" design as follows: "We see duality in all areas of life, especially in sport. It's the opposites that create the love of competition. The strongest duality in nature is fire and ice - a concept that has been at the center of many amazing Nike stories."
