With the Why so sad? SB Dunk Low is a SB Dunk that wants to draw attention to a major social problem. All information about the background of the shoe and the release can be found in this post.
For the past several years, pro skateboarder John Rattray has spent his time building “Why So Sad?” dedicated to, a fundraiser aimed at raising awareness and keeping the dialogue around mental health alive. And thanks to the Swoosh, Rattray can take his mission to a bigger stage by releasing a Nike SB Dunk Low in collaboration with the Swoosh.
As seen on Rattray's online font collection – The Predatory Bird – the fundraising mission has already spawned a slew of articles, often with graphics depicting a bird engaged in various activities. He's seen here on a bike across the heel and on a skateboard along the right insole, the latter contrasting with the usual co-branding. Elsewhere, the question marks emblazoned on both the heel tab and the aglets are repeated multiple times; “WHY SO SAD?” is written in bold letters, printed on the back of the tongue.
Shades of blue then dress the entire color scheme, outfitting the base and overlays in a light and dark hue respectively. And while the Swoosh may appear ordinary from the outside, it gradually turns yellow with wear, likely indicating how to hide your depression and deteriorating mental health.
