NIGO x Nike collaboration announced for 2024

If you look at the Japanese designer's CV, you'll stumble across a number of collabos and successful projects. Most of us know NIGO from his role as the founder of Humane Made (2010) and A Bathing Ape (1993). Following the sale of A Bathing Ape in 2011 and official exit in 2013, the artist has made clever use of his new capacities and was appointed Kenzo's artistic creative director in 2021. Despite some collabs with adidas, a collaboration with the brand with the Swoosh has not been on the agenda so far. The good news is now leaking out that Nagao Tomoaki has signed a contract with Nike and that we can soon look forward to the first NIGO x Nike Fusion products.

Information that certainly surprised many of us and that hardly anyone would have expected after Nike filed a lawsuit against A Bathing Ape at the beginning of the year. The subject of the lawsuit was the popular Bape Sta silhouette, which, according to the brand with the Swoosh, was too similar to its own models. On closer inspection, in their opinion, the 2000 model bears too many resemblances to the Air Force 1 , Dunk Low and Air Jordan 1 .

It remains to be seen how extensive the NIGO x Nike collab will be and whether we can look forward to a long-term collaboration. We hope and assume that the project will include both apparel and sneakers. Despite the short time, the first parts should already be waiting for us in 2024. An official announcement has not yet been made by either the 53-year-old or the brand with the Swoosh. The lawsuit for trademark infringement is also pending. We are curious to see whether the signing of the treaty will finally seal the peace.
