It's finally official! Virgil Abloh and Nike are releasing 50 different pairs of the Off White Dunk before this year ends.
While the collection was known as “THE 50” on social media, the new working title of the 50 models is “Dear Summer” and was named after an album by JAY-Z.
The upcoming collaboration is Abloh's largest project with NIKE, Inc. since “The Ten” from 2017, in which ten silhouettes of the North American group were reinterpreted. It was previously speculated that it would be a 20-pair lineup in nearly two dozen colorways. Off White's latest venture focuses on a dunk low and revives it with 48 different colors for the laces, tongue, sock lining, zipper, ticket number and side Swoosh underlay.
The shoes, numbered '01/50′ and '50/50′, do away with the white and light gray colors that make up a large part of the ‘Dear Summer' collection, opting instead for tonal colors of white and black.
Abloh has yet to reveal the exact inspiration behind his latest collab, but those details will surely be revealed in the coming months. What is certain, however, is that “The 50” marks a turning point for Peter Moore's 36-year design.
